The Specific Relief Act dated 1 May 1877 (This India Act of 1877 is held to be in force in Myanmar. It has provisions for filing suit for the declaration of entitlement of a legal character denied, or for a suit by a person whose property, franchise or personal right would be injured by forebearing of the specific act. The Act has been used by the National League for Democracy - along with the Law of Contract - against the Myanmar Government for their refusal to convene the Pyithu Hluttaw in 1990 and for declaring in September 2010 the NLD an unlawful organisation.)

New Light of Myanmar on 4 February 2009 reported in detail on two meetings which UN Special Adviser Ibrahim Gambari held with the "Spokes Authoritative Team" of the State Peace and Development Council and also on a meeting with Prime Minister Thein Sein. As the report is ten pages long, key points have been highlighted in colour.

There has been much confusion about the eligibility of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi to stand for election in 2010, partly due to informal comments made by Foreign Minister Nyan Win which have been taken too seriously.

Statements by the National League for Democracy
The NLD decide not to apply for re-registration as a political party by the deadline of 6 May 2010. Accordingly, as from 7 May 2010, the party as legal entity has effectively been dissolved. The links below however are retained to assist research.
